Powers:
Intuition
Alex often has intuitive hunches regarding situations she is involved in. Whether it be from research in the laboratory or the commute home, fate has a tendency to tug upon her. The strength of her divine guidance is entirely dependent upon the amount of thought and logic invested. The more Alex contemplates and reasons with an idea, the more her intuition will tell her if she is going in the correct direction. Similarly, if she has not found the correct path, flaws in her logic become apparent and alternative solutions open up. For example, if Alex was observing interactions between Serengeti herbivores, she would more often than not have an accurate hunch as to what the motivations and concepts were behind their actions. Should she not investigate, it would remain a hunch. However critical thinking acts as a spur for her powers, giving her affirmation and correction.
Premonition
Alex has the uncanny ability to preemptively determine actions made against her. If a serpent lay coiled in the grasses before her, Alex would intuitively step to the side rather than be bitten. Or perhaps a word was to strike at her, she would already know its path and be able to move out of its way. This ability works in the short term, and only with the concrete. She cannot know a sword strike will be directed at her more than 10 minutes in advance, and she cannot know that the swordsman will attack her before he himself has decided to.
Weaknesses:
Insanity
Knowledge can often lead to contentment and wisdom, as with many sages and scholars. Yet it can also be a double edge sword for one to fall upon, as in the case of Alex. Whether as a direct or indirect result of her powers, Alex has suffered from mental illness for a great majority of her life. Whereas her ancestor, Athena, is a zenith of wisdom and inner peace, Alex contains a writhing mass of chemical potential; potent and effective, but disordered and volatile. Schizophrenia plagues the catacombs of her mind as she works, often populating the halls and labs where she works with busy people even in the darkest hours of night. Few characters have become persistent within her illusions, but she has a tendency to recycle faces so many of them have become familiar. She also suffers from severe hypnagogic hallucinations, where on the edges of sleep she experiences strange and sometimes frightening scenes. Many would not associate her disorders with the divine powers she has been gifted with, however the activity and severity of these delusions and hallucinations is directly correlated with the stress her powers are under. If she begins to lose herself within a complex problem, constantly utilizing her ability to guide her intuitions, it is not impossible for her schizophrenia to reshape half the world. In these severe states she cannot determine what is real and what is illusory, which may lead to mental breakdowns depending on the level of interaction she has with them.
If Alex has particularly intense and prolonged exposure, she may develop temporary symptoms. These symptoms might last anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. On some spectacularly superlative occasions, the magnitude of her usage was strong enough to cause permanent scarring (her synesthesia and vocal tic are an example).
Anything else: Although not necessarily a weakness or a strength, Alex also experiences synesthetic perception as well as a vocal tic disorder. Whenever Alex hears a note (such as in a musical score), her brain associates a number with it. In this manner she can form long sequences of numbers, and has in some cases used it as a coping mechanism for stress. Just as well, whenever she does experience stress, she inadvertently clicks her tongue softly and rapidly. The sound is inaudible from a distance, but one in close conversation with her would certainly hear it.

Hair color & Style: Long auburn hair, often worn in a ponytail
Eye color: Grey
Skin Tone: Caucasian. Slightly pale
Height & Weight: 1.6 meters (5'4") / 59 kg (~130 pounds)
Build: Alex has a slender build that is, unfortunately, far from busty. She lacks the bosom that many men find desirable though she does possess attractive hips. Often engaged in field research rather than indulging in a sedentary lifestyle, Alex has a fairly toned body that lacks excess fat and muscle both.
Other: Alex tends to wear subdued colours such as grey, black, and white as she claims that bright ones hurt her eyes. She owns one ill fitting set of professional clothes, and would always prefer to dress in casual clothing such as jeans. Often wears sunglasses on sunny days.

Occupation: Part Time Student, Independent Researcher.
Place of Birth: Kelowna. British Columbia, Canada
History: Alex was born in Kelowna, BC, to Katrina and James Sotiris. While James was a secondary math teacher, and Katrina a nurse, Georgia had managed to set up a small series of upscale restaurants. Their wealthier relative offered to share residency with James and Katrina on the condition that she could be a part of Alex's upbringing, as she had no children of her own. While always fidgety and uneasy about relying so heavily on Georgia's philanthropy, James never saw harm to anything except his own ego come of the arrangement. It became apparent after a good while though, that Alex was not wont to bond with any of the three. Though Georgia persisted desperately to have Alex be her vicarious child, the girl simply disconnected with her family in her teenage years. More often than not they'd find her wandering through Georgia's gardens or studying some topic or another, always alone. Yet they knew not that Alex was never truly alone, for many years she had been experiencing her hallucinations. Where the adults saw a half empty estate, Alex saw a home brimming with characters.
It was only after she was 16 that her reality was shattered into a thousand little pieces by her aunt. Concerned over the fact that Alex rarely spoke, and had no friends, Georgia took her to a psychiatrist where she was diagnosed with schizophrenia. She became an outpatient of the psychiatrist, and spent the next three years in and out of mental wards. It was during this time that Alex's formidable cognitive abilities noticed the correlation between her hunches and the hallucinations. She had always seemed wiser than most; always had her ideas and intuitions seemed to end up being correct. Yet she found that the longer she had analyzed an idea and applied herself to it, the worse her disconnection to reality became. Unable to explain her revelation to her concerned aunt or her fretting parents, Alex simply allowed them to jerk her in and out of the ward. Soon enough, she knew, her time would come.
Those were the years of many contemplations. As long as her family paid for the facilities, she continued to sacrifice all sanity in exchange for brilliant and profound revelations. She dug deeply, and her mind felt the toll of exertion. Several other disorders developed during these episodes, evidence of her scarring from overexposure. Yet vitally important were the endless nights of self discovery, when Alex analyzed every movement and thought that went through her head. It was on these nights that she discovered the full extent of her powers, and the limitless possibilities of her mind.
Once secondary school ended, Alex’s new plan was set into motion. Unable to allow them to one day commit her full time to an institute, she immediately enrolled into college and moved out. Taking much of the lab equipment she had asked her aunt to purchase over the years, as well as some clothes and necessities, Alex found a shoddy apartment to call her new home. A part time job and school took up much of her time now, with institutions falling from her mind. Alex knew medications would not work, that they never had and never would.
Alex is still working toward her degrees, with her residence being in Kelowna, CA. A while ago she declared her major to be Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, while her minor is in General Engineering. However she takes much time to travel to various places or conduct independent experiments. More often than not Alex has to requisition at least some money from her aunt for these endeavors, which usually involves a favor or companionship; nothing comes free.

Descendant of: Athena
Mother: Katrina Sotiris
Father: James Sotiris
Siblings: None
Other Important Relatives: Georgia Sotiris [Aunt, Unmarried]
Marital Status: Single
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Wealth/Social status: Above Average, Comfortable
Detailed: Alex never had a strong bond with her family. When growing up she lived with her mother, father, and aunt. The former two and Alex relying on the latter for much of their financial support, there was a certain tension in the household. However, Alex felt none of it as she was more often than not out and away conversing with imaginary friends. Her Aunt Georgia has agreed to pay for Alex's college and extra-curricular activities, though there is the stipulation that she has to be a part of her niece's life. This is rather hard for Alex as the woman had put her through several bouts of institutionalization. However, the girl does not entirely fault Georgia, and tries greatly to bear no animosity toward her. Yet neither of them would be so delusional (ironically enough) to say there was a strong connection between them.
Never give up
Never surrender
[/color]Never surrender
Likes: Asian food, science, philosophy, religion, planning, hikes, nature, and travel.
Dislikes: people who get too close, crying and screaming, nonsensical violence, lewdness or immodesty, unwarranted self worth, religious extremists, and flying.
Fears: Not being released from a hallucination, losing her intellect, spiders.
Weaknesses: Detachment from reality, non-combative, non-empathetic
Strengths: Genius, Creative, Open Minded
Quirks & Habits: Left Handed, never separates laundry between colors and whites, and dislikes sitting in first class on airplanes because of the increased attention from flight attendants.
Secrets: Her powers (and illnesses) are kept a secret from anybody for as long as possible. This usually is not a problem, as they are fairly subtle. Also a virgin. Also, she is jealous of Asana Salvatore's powers.
Goals: Intellectual mastery, whatever that may be.
Personality: Alex both embodies the overbearing complexity and chaos of insanity and the simplicity of wisdom. The harder one works at outlining the gears within her, the more frustrated one is likely to become. Yet when one simply yields and is receptive to her words, things become much simpler. How exactly is one supposed to understand a mind when its owner does not fully comprehend it? Some things are meant to exist and not be understood.
For the most part Alex is calm and tranquil, though there is a certain unpredictability associated with her. In the deepest throes of her divinely wrought inflictions, she can develop temporary disorders and symptoms that may change her behavior radically. However what follows is her actions in a calm and uninhibited state.
Alex is definitively introverted, preferring to take some time alone to recharge her energy. If she spends too much time around large crowds she becomes tired and worn, which may lead to some irritableness. She has few, if any people, she can call close friends, and feels little need to expand upon that network.
Her temperament and values tend to lean toward amoral and impartial; she would never cause undue or sadistic harm to somebody, yet she would not flinch if it was necessary. Again, this sometimes can be subject to her hallucinations, and her view of justice lies within and not without. Cold is a word to describe her calmest self.
Alex is an internal processor, and will almost always peruse ideas within her head before voicing her opinion. When speaking, she's more prone to present fully formed ideas or bits of advice rather than haphazard notions. For this reason she may sometimes seem a bit slow, for rarely does she immediately offer her opinion. Alex is strategic and thoughtful in many matters.
Though not averse to work she finds enjoyable, Alex is quite the sloth with things she finds boring. Not particularly interested in cleaning, sports, or social events, she will often put them off or skip entirely. To her, there is no point in investing valuable time and energy in tasks that are not engaging mentally.
One might say Alex lives in a world filled with theoretical possibilities, thinking in terms of transformations and "what ifs". She has the mind of an engineer, always searching for solutions, inspirations, and designs from wherever they may come. She often seems dreamy, distant, or aloof, especially due to her natural disconnection with the world.
Alex does have a small problem with rebellion and self-aggrandizement. If she sees a leader as incompetent, she is more than willing to challenge him (even if her perceptions are wrong) and sometimes even dethrone him. She does not believe in the benefit of the status queue, and occasionally sees people who cannot adapt to change as weak willed. This may end up creating just as much chaos as order, seeing as she herself has no inclination to lead. Or even worse, her believe in the leader's inabilities may be incorrect (from not analyzing the situation enough). Another problem is her tendency toward inflating the appearance of her efforts for others. Alex usually sees what she is doing as the most interesting thing at the time, and can nudge its appeared self worth up a few notches to generate interest so others might share her enthusiasm. While she herself is never fooled by this, it is deceptive of others. Just as well, it is a double edged sword because she hates attention.

Lambency. That is the word. Thoughts came and went as idly as the people did. Alex Sotiris laid there, staring at the shadowed ceiling as if it were the most interesting blank wall in the world. The most interesting blank wall to have ever existed, perhaps. Maybe.
She could not tell if the silhouetted organisms that entered her room and went about their business were made of flesh or figment. The young scientist sat up, leaning against the wall as her eyes strained to watch them in the darkness. After twenty years of mental pestilence, Alex could still never always tell reality from fantasy.
She reached over and flicked on a desk lamp, bathing the man in light. Two arms, two legs, torso, neck, head. He certainly looked human. Clothed in a blue turtle neck and jeans, the slim figure wore horned rim glasses and had a nervous, trembly look about him. Recognition illuminated his face as he saw Alex, and he called out an enthusiastic greeting. "Alex! How long has it been since I've seen you. It must have been forever, old friend." He radiated warmth and comfort like a fireplace on the winter solstice. Everything without was cold in comparison. "I have missed you dearly."
Alex simply sat and stared at the small man, the same small man she had known for years. Slowly she brought herself to speak, "I have missed you too, Benjamin." Her fingers kneaded each other as she bit her lip a bit, and a look of concern came over Benjamin's face. "What's wrong, Alex? Have I said something?"
"Not at all..."
"Then what's wrong, how have you been?"
Minutes turned to hours as they talked, and soon the sun had awoken. As it crept over the mountain peaks, Benjamin stood up to leave. Alex remained where she was, leaning on the bed's wall. The episode was calming. She bid goodbye, and watched as her best friend vanished into nothingness.
